The surface roughness for turning with high stock removal
rates is immediately determined by the following process parameters:
Process parameter
Cutting edge geometry
Chipping of cutting edge
Setting angle
Feed
Depth of cut
Other factors influencing the machining result include the
machinability of the basic material and the rigidity of all
the elements influencing the metal-cutting process. The workpiece
surface is not directly influenced by the material quality
of the cutting element. This alters the surface quality only
through its wear behavior.
It is therefore advisable to adopt the cutting geometries
proven in connection with hard metal for SYNCUT-D and, with
certain restrictions, for SYNCUT-CB as well.
The well-known formula for determining the theoretical roughness
for turning is applicable and valid for roughness values >
3µm.
